Every business operating within the city limits of Marietta must have a current City of Marietta business license. Applications are received and processed at our Business License Office located on the first floor of City Hall, 205 Lawrence Street, Marietta, GA.

Most businesses will need to complete an application for a General Business License. In addition, the applicant must complete notarized affidavits (Affidavit Verifying Status and Private Employer Affidavit), Home-Based Business Acknowledgement Form (for businesses operating out of a residence) and provide copies of appropriate identification. License fees are based on annual gross receipts or the number of employees, whichever is greater. Payment can be made by cash or check.

Any business selling or manufacturing alcohol within the city limits of Marietta must obtain an Alcoholic Beverage License prior to engaging in the sale or making of alcohol. After completing the Alcoholic Beverage application and related items on the checklist, please contact the Business License Division, at 770-794-5520, to schedule an appointment. Alcohol License fees are listed on page 2 of the application and are due in certified funds upon submission of the application.

Upon submission of the alcoholic beverage application, the applicant, owners and agent will undergo a background check by the Marietta Police Department. Please contact Nicole Oddi, Permits & ID Technician with the Marietta Police Department, at 770-794-5341, to schedule the background check. All new Alcoholic Beverage License applications are reviewed by the City Manager on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Upon approval, a copy of the alcoholic beverage licenses may be obtained from the Business License Office. The original alcoholic beverage licenses are held in the Business License Office until a state alcoholic beverage license is obtained by the business and a copy of the state license is brought to the Business License Office. No alcohol may be sold or manufactured until the state license is obtained and the original city license is released.
Professionals will need to complete an application for a Professional Business License. For the list of professional type businesses, see page 2 of the professional application. License fees are based on a flat fee of $400 per professional or a calculation based on gross receipts or number of employees (choice elected on an annual basis). Payment can be made by cash or check.
