Alpha Delta Pi

Originally called the Adelphean Society, Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851, in Macon, Georgia, at Wesleyan Female College. It was the first secret society for women in the world and paved the way for today’s sorority system. Our founders, Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerlad, Octavia Andrew Rush, Ella Pierce Turner, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, Sophronia Woodruff Dews, and Mary Evans Glass, recognized the importance of women coming together for personal development. They founded the society upon the principles of scholarship, leadership, service to others, and sisterhood. These values are instilled throughout Alpha Delta Pi chapters nationally and guide our policies and programs.

Chapter History

The Theta Delta Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was founded at the University of Delaware on May 3, 2008, with 115 founding sisters. Kim Lane has the honor of being Theta Delta’s first president. An alumna of the Theta Delta chapter is Ali McDonough. After the passing of her brother Andrew at age 14 from pediatric cancer, Ali and her family started the B+ Foundation. In 2010, Theta Delta adopted the B+ Foundation as our local philanthropy. The Alpha Delta Pi sorority house's current address is 303 David Hollowell Drive, Newark, DE 19716.
