License: Asbestos Abatement Supervisor

Asbestos abatement work involving more than 3 linear or 3 square feet must be conducted by a licensed asbestos contractor using certified asbestos contractor/supervisors and asbestos workers. The “Definitions” in RCSA 19a-332a-1 for “asbestos abatement” and “asbestos abatement project” further exempt removal of cement pipe by employees of a water company, and asbestos materials found exterior to a facility that are presently considered nonfriable and will remain nonfriable during abatement. Certified Asbestos Supervisor: a certified individual who supervises abatement projects. A supervisor must be onsite at abatement projects that are federally regulated under both the Clean Air Act, asbestos National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulation and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TCSA), Title 2, 40 CFR Part 763, “Asbestos Containing Materials in Schools” rule. The supervisor may serve as the NESHAP competent person, provided that individual is trained under the provisions of 40 CFR, Part 61, Subpart M.
